About the Artist

Lauren Waters is a talented fine woodworker and a forester, living in Revelstoke, British Columbia.  She recently started her own woodworking company, building mostly one-of-a-kind fine furniture on a commission basis. She started making studio furniture while at Selkirk College in the Fine Woodworking Program.  Before this, she studied forestry at the University of British Columbia and worked as a professional forester for many years throughout British Columbia, and most recently in the Revelstoke area.  Prior to that she studied Fine Arts at McMaster University in Hamilton.

She lives with her partner and their yellow Lab, and enjoys the outdoors, skiing, hiking and cycling. Much of her inspiration for her furniture designs comes from a combination of her artistic background and spending time in the mountains.  She also enjoys traveling to exotic places such as South America, Nepal, Central America, Greece, Turkey, and Mexico.

Her work has been shown in juried exhibitions and in international competitions. She won a national competition for her stylish Mountain desk. She has work in galleries in Vancouver and the United States.

Lauren is a member of the Furniture Society, the BC Crafts Association and the Association of BC Forest Professionals.

Artist's Statement

Lauren's furniture is thoughtfully designed and well constructed.  It has a distinctive style—contemporary, with organic curves that bring together her love of trees and art.  She prefers to work with woods indigenous to North America such as maple, cherry, walnut, and Douglas fir. Her work is one-of-a-kind or limited production, built to be enjoyed for many generations.
